The Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA), once again takes the lead in recognizing champions of volunteerism as it launches the 2015 Search for Outstanding Volunteers (SOV).

The yearly search aims to give recognition to the unsung and ordinary Filipino citizens and organizations who have contributed extraordinary milestones for the country through their small, yet invaluable, acts of service towards nation-building and national development. The SOV is the yearly centerpiece event culminating with the celebration of the National Volunteer Month (NVM) every December.

August 5-6, 2014, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Regional Office 02 conducted an In-House Orientation Workshop on Public Private Partnership at the Pamegafanan Hall, NEDA Regional Office 02 (NRO2), Carig Sur, Tuguegarao City. This was participated in by 15 officials and staff from the various Local Government Units (LGUs) and 11 technical staff of NEDA.

Volunteerism in the Philippines has been inculcated in the very foundation of its culture.  It has taken different guises or traditional names such as Bayanihan, Pahinungod, Kawanggawa or Bahaginan. Throughout the decades, volunteerism has continuously evolved and remains to be an essential part of Filipino lives.

In recognizing the vital role of volunteers and their contributions to the nation-building, the Philippine Government has designated the month of December as the National Volunteer Month (NVM). The NVM aims to build nationwide public awareness and appreciation of volunteerism and create the environment for voluntary action. It also recognizes volunteers as partners in the development and an appropriate form of recognition to the modern day heroes whose work is demonstrated by commitment and service to others.
